Description:
UE283. Dark gray clay colmation fill formed as a result of the abandonment of the lower part of pit 277. It serves as support for the collapse of offering 252c. It has its origin in the filtrations of sediments coming from outside through offering 252. It was formed over stratum 299 from surrounding materials washed away by natural erosion-sedimentation dynamics during the abandonment phase. These deposits were filtered mostly by the juncture that existed between the edges of the platform and the walls of the upper part of the main pit. This led to the massive accumulation of a very fine-grained decanted sediment next to the walls of the lower part of the pit, and extended over its entire surface. It was composed of dark gray clayey soil with reddish hues; it had a compact, plastic, unctuous and very fine-grained texture. It was also dotted with a multitude of small black spots caused by the natural presence of iron oxide and some isolated nodules of reddish clay. It has provided very few archaeological remains: some scattered ceramic fragments, two plates, two trays, two bowls, a globular vessel, a small block of fired clay, three boulders with marks of use, and a fragment of shell in its natural state. The complete pieces of pottery found inside the tomb probably came from offering 252. These pieces could have filtered down the walls of the tomb, washed down by erosion-sedimentation processes. Above UE299. Below UE252c. Fills UE277.
