Description:
UE329. Undermining of the eastern end of the NE wall of the lower part of pit UE277, in tomb T7, caused by the detachment of a block of geological substratum. It is an irregularly contoured hole, about 0.75 m long by 0.60 m high and about 0.30 m deep, which resulted in the disappearance of the geological substratum at that point and the consequent destruction of the corresponding wall section. The contour of this cavity has irregular prismatic forms typical of the cracking by desiccation of the geological matrix, which seems to correspond to the negative of the detached block. This suggests that the detachment in question is the consequence of a prolonged exposure of the inner perimeter of the pit to the elements, with the consequent dehydration of the substrate, and that it occurred in a sector of the tomb not sufficiently reinforced by the ring of posts of the lower vessel, which had remained unfinished. It is a clear indication of the temporary abandonment of the project. The section of the northeastern wall of the pit above the vertical detachment was left overhanging, in a clearly unstable condition, forcing it to be braced by means of a total of three wooden props (UEs 302, 304 and 306), once construction work on the tomb had resumed. Cut to UE277 and UE278. Filled by UE324.
