Description:
Figurative cast gold pendant representing a two-headed bat flying. It was part of the mortuary ensemble of the I5 individual from tomb T2. The suspension ring is on the back of the pendant. Conte style.
In the representation the twin heads play a prominent role, they have been represented with great liveliness: A short snout with open (and sunken) jaws with big sharp teeth, a nose with round orifices, a nasal leaf pointing upwards and slightly curved, two big spherical eyes and pointy ears. The necks spring out of a triangular body with a narrow wing membrane (patagium) that appears only in the upper limbs, where a complete claw that reaches the end of the wing, is added in the place where the thumb should be. The wide tail coils forward between the inferior limbs. The nasal leaf identifies the bat as one the Phyllostomidae family, but the rest of its characteristics seem to mix different species in what could be interpreted as a generic way of representing a bat.
