Description:
Embossed gold discoidal pectoral with a frontal representation of the face of a supernatural being with the features of an old man. Conte metallurgical group.
The represented face has a wide and prominent nose, the eyes are two concentric ovals and in the large mouth the teeth, large and separated between which the tongue is observed, take the form of truncated triangles. The same line that traces the nose borders the eyes and delimits the cheeks, with cheek bones and the nasogenian furrow very marked. The ears, with the somewhat inverted curvature, may have circular ear rods. Two slightly furrowed bands at the height of the nose mark deep horizontal wrinkles in the forehead that merge with the ears and the edge of the plate. As can be seen, with the possible exception of teeth, all its features are human. Moreover, the marked cheeks and furrows, the drooping eyelids, and the wrinkles on the forehead point to an elderly person, as these are stylistic convections widely used in pre-Hispanic iconography to represent an elderly person. The spacing of the teeth may be indicating a toothless mouth, another iconographic resource for marking old age. The pectoral has no rim and has two perforations at the end of the nose for its suspension.
