Description:
Gold discoidal pectoral which is embossed with the face of a supernatural being with the features of a mythical crocodile. Conte metallurgical group.
The face has a wide and prominent nose; round eyes with marked bony ridges; and a fleshy mouth with triangular teeth from which hangs a forked tongue. From the area between the eyes, nose, and the base of the forehead come two ridges that are curled at the ends and which make the oval of the face. These iconographic features are interpreted within the Conte style as belonging to a mythical crocodile or dragon. The nose, eyes and mouth are biological in nature, while the crests and forked tongue are elements shared with other mythical beings that endow it with a supernatural character within the semiology of the area. The design is framed with a strip of eighteen concentric circles, a motif that often depicts the dermal plates of crocodiles. It has two suspension holes at eye level. 21 x 24 cm. Weight: 183 gr.
