It was found along with other artifacts, in the NE corner of the third level grave pit of tomb T2, as an offering. It wasn't associated with a body. A packet of copper plates and some belt pendants made from sperm whale teeth were resting on it.

It was found along with a butterfly form breastplate and two cuffs. The three artifacts are very similar to those that were worn by the principle individual of the tomb. Similar offerings, miniature gold mortuary ensembles, were found in tombs T2 and T3. These types of vessels, characterized by their high decorated tripod bases, are very common in both the Veragüas and Chiriqui areas but are not often found in Coclé, which is why they are considered foreign.
