Description:
Bone carved in the shape of a mythical being with a head with a large mouth and large teeth. It also has a crest or plume of feathers, claws and a long feathered tail.
Conservation treatment:

Conservation Treatment: Given the fragility of the object, dry cleaning with soft bristle brushes was proposed and carried out. This was followed by dust and sediment removal using a dusting bulb. The object also showed biological degradation in the form of orange and yellow veins similar to sediment. These areas were firmly attached to the surface, and their removal took time. The rest of the sedimentary material was carefully removed with bamboo skewers. Cotton wrapped with bamboo skewers and lightly impregnated with a solution of demineralised water and ethanol (70-30 equal parts) was then used. Areas where fragility was high were simultaneously consolidated and cleaned with a low solution of Paraloid B-72 (6% dissolved in acetone). Finally, the object was consolidated on both surfaces to alleviate cracking of the material. Preservation carried out by: Ileana Olmos / January 2015
