Digital Object 929
Description:
Canine-shaped pendant.
Conservation treatment:

At the time of the documentation, the object presented some radial fractures mainly in the area surrounding a perforation that pierced the object from side to side (perforation possibly created to use the object as a pendant). These cuts and cracks suffered by the artifact were partially repaired and consolidated "in situ" (verbal communication with Carlos Mayo) with Paraloid B-72. Preservation 2015 The object is rounded at one end, and ends in a sharp point at the other end. In the central area, and near the dotted area, there is another crack that seemed superficial, and was also consolidated with Paraloid B-72 (6% in acetone). The areas around the perforation show cracks and tearing of material. A light mechanical cleaning was applied, avoiding evasion of the surfaces of the artifact. First with a soft bristle brush, then a small dusting bulb to remove dust. In areas where there were sediments from the excavation, they were removed with cotton wool attached to bamboo skewers impregnated with a solution of demineralized water. A solution of acetone and water (50:50) on cotton attached to bamboo skewers was used in areas where sediments were more cohesive. During mechanical cleaning, the object was separated in the central area, so it had to be re-attached with B-72 at 50% acetone. This breakage caused fragmentation around the affected area, so a paste was prepared using "microbubbles" and B-72 (with a pinch of natural pigment to integrate the color). In the same way, fillings were made for the area around the perforation because it already presented new tearing of the material. Before these areas were filled, the fractures were consolidated using a lower concentration of B-72 using the capillary action of medical syringes.
